May 29th: Theatrical Fundraiser for “Girl on Girl”

428397_10100124441624798_2001845527_n I am very excited to participate in a theatrical fundraiser for Jodi Savitz’s documentary, “Girl on Girl” !  I will appear in “2 Pros and a Lay”, a witty and interesting look at femininity in the lesbian community.  As a femme, I have always been interested in addressing “femme invisibility” – I am so excited to be a part of Jodi’s event!

The following is from {Your Name Here}’s official event description: What happens when your identity is constantly challenged and trivialized? How does one hold firm to their personal style and presentation when faced with criticism coming from your own community?

{Your Name Here} A Queer Theater Company is excited to share a sneak peak at what promises to be an eye-opening, groundbreaking and empowering contribution to the Lesbian community.

Ms. Savitz will be on hand to explain the film and show clips with commissioned performances that delve further into topics brought up in the film. Also, the night will feature original artwork created specifically for the event by noted artist, Olivia Boyle.

Ms. Savitz describes her intention for the film as such:
“By following similarly feminine women, the film paints full and intricate portraits of lesbians who are overlooked in their personal struggle to both find and maintain their identities as lesbians due to cultural ideologies surrounding womanhood, lesbian identity, and the butch-femme aesthetic that stereotype femme-lesbian sexuality as frivolous, unsubstantiated, and synonymous with bisexuality. Ultimately, these are women who must defend their sexuality over and over again to a critical and skeptical world.”

Girl on Girl is sponsored by NYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) and {Your Name Here} A Queer Theater Company and is directed by Jodi Savitz.
